AP Chemistry - Simple Bonding Theories

1. Draw the Lewis dot structures for the following ions and molecules:

H2O NH3 NH4+

sulfite sulfur trioxide perbromate

xenon tetrafluoride carbon dioxide NH2(CH2)4COOH

C6H12 (cyclic) C6H4Cl2 (cyclic) - I don’t care where the Cl’s go

2. Does resonance change the formal charge on atoms in a structure? Support your answer.

3. Draw the Lewis dot structure for NO2 and the dimer N2O4. Why is the dimer form more stable? (BTW, a dimer is a molecule formed from the combination of two other identical molecules.)

4. Describe (not just label) all of the bonding in barium sulfate. Your answer should include any appropriate LDS.
